At this time the town called Borsao and was already recognized as a wine producing district. Borsao has been producing notable wines since Roman times based on a distinct Garnacha variety grape. Borsao vineyards, located in north-eastern Spain adjoining the better known Navarra region, Campo de Borja is making a name for itself by creating full fruit-forward red wines. The vineyards planted primarily with Garnacha, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Cabernet, sit between the mountains behind the town and the local river Ebro at an elevation of approximately 1200 feet. While Borsao has been around for a while, a recent modernization coupled with a gigantic marketing push into the US and the UK markets, has put Borsao wines on the map, as well as into the limelight. Robert Parker recently described them as “one of the world’s greatest value-priced wineries”.
